What L29 means
Toshiba L29 indicates an outdoor unit IPDU error, specifically that fewer IPDUs were detected than expected. The IPDU is the intelligent power drive unit, the board section that drives the compressor and fan motors. The system checked its own hardware and could not find part of it. High severity. What usually causes L29
Three realistic causes: a failed or damaged IPDU board, a loose or corroded connector between boards inside the outdoor unit, or a power supply problem that leaves part of the board unpowered. In Singapore, ledge mounted outdoor units live in heat and humidity, and connector corrosion over years is more common than people expect.
What you can safely try
One power cycle: off at the breaker, five minutes, back on. If L29 clears and stays away, it was a transient. If it returns, stop resetting. This is inside the outdoor unit, at mains voltage, around capacitors that hold charge. Not a DIY job under any circumstances.
