F97 is one of the Panasonic codes to take seriously. It is your compressor telling you it is running too hot.
What F97 means
Panasonic F97 indicates compressor overheating. The compressor is the most expensive component in your system, and this code is the protection that stops it cooking itself. High severity, no ambiguity. Full table in our Panasonic error codes guide.
What usually causes F97 in Singapore
Compressors overheat when they work harder than designed. The usual local causes: low refrigerant from a leak, which starves the compressor and makes it run hot; a condenser that cannot shed heat because the coils are caked or the outdoor unit sits in a hot enclosed ledge corner with no airflow; and on older systems, a compressor already weakening. Our climate punishes all three.
What you can safely try
Switch the unit off and let it cool for at least half an hour, then restart once. If F97 returns, stop. This is the code where repeated resets cost real money: every restart against an overheating compressor shortens its life, and a compressor replacement is a four figure decision.
What our technician does
Pressure and temperature diagnosis: gas level and leak testing, condenser condition and airflow, then compressor health. The point is to separate a cheap cause from an expensive one before anyone spends anything.
What it costs
A condenser clean sits at servicing rates. A leak repair with recharge is mid range. If the compressor itself is failing on an older unit, we give you the honest repair versus replace maths first. Diagnosis rates are on our aircon repair in Singapore page.
