H85 alarms people because it appears out of nowhere. Here is the reassuring truth about what it actually is.
What H85 means
Panasonic H85 signals abnormal communication between the indoor unit and its wireless LAN module, the small adapter that connects your aircon to WiFi and the Comfort Cloud app. In Panasonic’s fault table this is a low severity code. Your cooling system is fine, the aircon and its network card are just not talking. Full table in our Panasonic error codes guide.
Why it happens
The usual triggers: the WiFi module lost sync after a power interruption, a router change or new WiFi password orphaned the connection, the module was never set up fully after installation, or, least often, the module itself has failed. None of these affect the refrigerant system, the compressor, or the actual cooling.
What you can safely try
Power the unit off at the breaker for five minutes and restart, this resyncs the module in many cases. If you recently changed your router or WiFi password, redo the Comfort Cloud pairing in the app, the code often clears the moment the module reconnects. If you never use the app, you can frankly ignore H85 entirely, the aircon cools the same either way.
When to call someone
If pairing fails repeatedly after resets, the module or its connection may genuinely be faulty. It is a small, replaceable part. Worth fixing if you use app control and scheduling, skippable if you use the remote like most of Singapore does.
