P10 is the Toshiba code that comes with a deadline: it is about water, and water does not wait. Here is what it means and what to do in the right order.
What P10 means
Toshiba P10 is the indoor unit water overflow protection. The float switch inside your indoor unit detected condensate water rising where it should not, which means the water that your aircon constantly produces is not draining away. The system shuts down to stop the tray overflowing onto your wall and floor. How to pull codes and the full table are in our Toshiba error codes guide.
What usually causes P10 in Singapore
Nearly always drainage. The classic case is a drain line clogged with the slimy biofilm that grows fast in our humidity, aircon jelly, as customers call it. On units with a condensate pump, cassettes and some concealed units especially, a failing pump triggers the same protection. Occasionally the cause is an installation-era problem, a drain pipe run with a bad gradient that was always going to clog early, something we see when taking over from rushed installs.
What you can safely try
Treat P10 as a stop order. Switch the unit off, because every hour it runs is more water with nowhere to go. If the drain outlet is accessible and visibly blocked at the mouth, clearing that can help, but the real blockage usually sits deeper in the line where home tools do not reach. Do not restart the unit repeatedly to see if it clears, the float switch is telling the truth.
What our technician does
Proper drainage clearing: flushing the line through, cleaning the tray and float switch, testing the pump where fitted, and checking the pipe gradient so the fix lasts. If the tray has been overflowing quietly for a while, we also check for the water damage you cannot see yet.
What it costs
Drainage clearing is one of the cheaper fixes in the book, typically normal servicing territory unless a pump needs replacement. The expensive version is the one where P10 was ignored and the repair becomes your downstairs neighbour’s ceiling. Rates are published on our aircon repair in Singapore page.
