How to Read Your Hisense Error Code
Most Hisense splits show the code on the indoor unit LED display; some models show it on the remote screen. Hisense uses two main families:
- E codes: sensor and communication faults
- F codes: inverter module protection faults
If You Cannot See the Code Clearly
- Take a photo of the indoor unit display.
- For intermittent codes or blinking lights, take a 30-second video.

How to Reset the Display
- Switch off the aircon at the wall switch.
- Wait 5 minutes for the system to fully discharge.
- Switch back on.
- If the same code reappears, the underlying fault is still present. Repeated resets without fixing the cause can make things worse.
Common Hisense Error Codes (E Series)
E1: Room Temperature Sensor Fault
The indoor ambient sensor has an open or short circuit, so the unit cannot read room temperature accurately.
What to do: Sensor replacement, one of the cheaper fixes from $130. Severity: Low to Medium.
E2: Indoor Coil Temperature Sensor Fault
The indoor pipe sensor is faulty; the unit cannot monitor its own coil and may ice up or cool poorly.
What to do: Sensor replacement. Severity: Low to Medium.
E3: Outdoor Coil Temperature Sensor Fault
The outdoor pipe sensor is faulty, disrupting pressure and defrost logic.
What to do: Sensor replacement at the condenser. Severity: Medium.
E4: Indoor/Outdoor Communication Fault
The units have stopped communicating.
Common causes:
- Damaged interconnect cable (renovation is the usual suspect)
- Corroded or loose terminals
- Failed communication circuit
What to do: Wiring and PCB check by a technician. Severity: Medium, and the unit usually will not run until fixed.
E5: Overcurrent Protection
Excessive current drawn: voltage fluctuations, a dirty condenser working the compressor too hard, or a failing compressor.
What to do: Reset once; recurring E5 needs diagnosis. Severity: High.
F Codes (Inverter Protection)
F1: IPM Overcurrent Protection
The inverter power module detected excess current. Repeated F1 usually means the module or compressor is straining.
What to do: Technician diagnosis. Severity: High.
F2: IPM Overheating Protection
The inverter module is running too hot: often a dirty outdoor unit baking in the sun, sometimes a failing module.
What to do: Clean the condenser and clear airflow first. If F2 returns, the module needs checking. Severity: High.
