York Aircon Error Codes Singapore (Complete Guide 2026)

https://www.york.com/en_sg/residential-equipment/products

Your York aircon is flashing E1, E5 or a P code, and you want to know what it means before anyone quotes you for a repair. York splits are common in Singapore, especially in condos and flats fitted out in the 2000s and 2010s, which also means many of them are now at the age where codes start appearing. This guide covers the codes, what they actually mean, and the honest repair-or-replace question for older York units.

At Lion City Aircon we have completed over 22,000 jobs since 2016, and York units are regulars on our schedule across Singapore’s older estates.

Reading York Error Codes

York is owned by Johnson Controls, and like Carrier, the residential split units sold in this region over the past decade are built on a shared OEM platform. That is good news for you: parts are obtainable and the code system is well understood. The bad news is that code meanings shift between series, so always confirm with your indoor unit’s nameplate sticker. When in doubt, WhatsApp us a photo of the code and the sticker.

York E Codes

  • E1: Indoor-outdoor communication error. The most common York code we see. Check the outdoor isolator first, then the interconnecting cable and terminals. Singapore’s humidity corrodes outdoor terminals over the years, and on older units this is a frequent culprit.
  • E2: Room temperature sensor (T1) error. Thermistor open or short circuit. Replacement from $130.
  • E3: Indoor coil sensor (T2) error. Same class of fault, the coil-mounted sensor.
  • E4: Indoor coil sensor (T2B) error. On multi-split indoor units, the second coil sensor.
  • E5: Outdoor coil sensor (T3) error. The outdoor thermistor. From $130.
  • E6: Zero-crossing detection or water-level alarm, depending on series. If it is the water-level version, the drain pan is full, and in Singapore that almost always means a clogged drain line. A drain vacuum from $90 clears it. See our aircon water leak guide.
  • E7: EEPROM error. The board has lost its stored configuration. Board-level repair or replacement.
  • EC: Refrigerant leak detection (on newer series). Do not just top up. The leak needs finding, as we explain in the gas top-up guide.

York P Codes (Protection Trips)

  • P0: IPM malfunction. The inverter power module has tripped. Often triggered by a dirty, overheating outdoor unit; sometimes the module itself. Inverter board replacement runs $300 to $600.
  • P1: Voltage protection. Supply voltage too high or low. If it recurs, have the supply and board checked.
  • P2: Compressor top temperature protection. The compressor overheated. Switch the unit off. Compressor replacement starts from $600 to $750, which is exactly why you do not run through this code.
  • P4: Compressor drive error. Inverter drive fault, technician territory.

Some older York series use different assignments (including high and low pressure protections on E1 and E3), so treat any code on a 15-year-old unit as needing series confirmation rather than a guess.

What to Do When Your York Shows a Code

  1. Photograph the code and the nameplate sticker.
  2. One reset only: off at the wall switch, wait 5 minutes, on. If the code returns, stop resetting.
  3. Safe checks: clean filters, confirm the outdoor isolator is on, look for obstructions at the outdoor unit.
  4. Sensor codes (E2 to E5): book a repair within a few days. Cheap fixes.
  5. Protection codes (P0 to P4, EC) or repeated E1: switch off and call. These are the codes that turn into compressor bills.

York Repair Costs in Singapore, and the Age Question

Lion City Aircon pricing, same across HDB, condo and landed, excluding GST:

  • Troubleshooting visit: $80, waived if you proceed with the repair
  • Drain vacuum: from $90
  • Sensor replacement: from $130
  • Fan motor: $200 to $350
  • PCB or inverter board: $300 to $600
  • Gas leak repair plus recharge: from $180
  • Compressor replacement: from $600 to $750

Honest note for York owners specifically: many York installs in Singapore date from the 2000s and early 2010s. A $130 sensor on a 15-year-old unit is fine. A $600 compressor or inverter board on one usually is not, because a brand-new System 1 install starts at $1,050 with a fresh warranty and far better efficiency. We will give you both numbers. See repair vs replacement for the framework.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does E1 mean on a York aircon?

On most York splits in Singapore, E1 is the indoor-outdoor communication error. Check the outdoor isolator switch first. If it is on and the code stays, the cabling, terminals or a control board needs diagnosis.

Why does my York show E6?

Depending on the series, E6 is either an electrical zero-crossing fault or a water-level alarm. If water is involved, the drain line is clogged, which is one of the most common aircon faults in Singapore and a cheap fix.

Are York aircon parts still available in Singapore?

Common parts, yes. Sensors, capacitors, fan motors and many boards are obtainable because York shares its residential platform with other major brands. Specific boards for very old series can take time or become uneconomical.

Is it worth repairing an old York aircon?

For cheap faults, usually yes. For compressor or inverter work on a unit past 10 to 12 years, get a replacement quote next to the repair quote before deciding. The repair often fails the value test.
